Jason Williams began his teaching career at an early age in Wilmington, NC, at his home studio. He later worked with university-level dance teams, served on the faculty of Jump Dance Convention, and assisted top industry choreographers such as Marguerite Derricks. He has taught at prominent Los Angeles studios, including Edge Performing Arts Center, Millenium Dance Complex, and Playground LA. Jason is the founder and director of The Jason Williams Experience, a master class in cultivating stardom, which he has brought to Steps on Broadway in New York City and other locations nationwide and internationally. Currently, he is on faculty with Adrenaline Dance Convention.
Jason’s dance career has been extensive and diverse. Early in his career, he was a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance Season 2. He has appeared in over a dozen feature films, such as High School Musical, Fame (2009), Dirty Dancing (2017). Jason has danced in numerous awards shows, including the Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, as well as the opening number of the Oscars. Jason has shared the stage with major music artists such as Lady Gaga, Paula Abdul, Shania Twain, and Miley Cyrus, and toured as a backup dancer for Mary J. Blige. Jason has danced on television shows like Dancing with the Stars, Dear White People, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Pose, and RuPaul’s Drag Race. Additionally, he has choreographed for the NBA dance teams, New York City Knicks and the Laker Girls. Most recently, Jason both choreographed and starred in Season 2 of Bridge and Tunnel, directed by Ed Burns.
Jason has had the privilege of learning from industry pioneers such as Frank Hatchett, Doug Caldwell, Kenny Ortega, and Marguerite Derricks. These experiences have influenced his teaching style, which combines an old-school approach with a new age flair. His choreography is intricate yet grounded, with a musical and soulful approach to movement that encourages dancers to lead with authenticity and develop their artistry. In his classes, Jason inspires students to find their confidence and stardom.
